NAPOLEON ANDRADE INDICTED ON FEDERAL GUN CHARGE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A federal grand jury has indicted Napoleon Andrade, 29, of Central Falls, R.I., on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm; it was announced by U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha. The indictment was issued on April 21, 2010. Andrade entered a plea of not guilty at arraignment on April 23, before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David L. Martin. Andrade pled not guilty to federal drug charges and was ordered detained on April 14, 2010, by U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David L. Martin. Last week’s indictment is an outgrowth of a continuing investigation into Andrade’s activities.

A federal grand jury indicted Andrade on April 12, 2010, on one count of possession of more than 500 grams of cocaine with the intent to distribute and the attempted possession of more than 50 grams of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. If convicted, Andrade faces a maximum sentence of life in federal prison on the crack cocaine charge and a maximum of 40 years in prison on the cocaine charge. Possession of a firearm is punishable by a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

An indictment is merely an allegation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The investigations are being conducted by ATF, Pawtucket Police, Providence Police, Central Falls Police, Rhode Island State Police and the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General.

The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Adi K. Goldstein and Gerard B. Sullivan.
